Wednesday daily sheep summary

Lamb numbers at Forbes decreased 56% this week, to 9,850 head. Scattered showers continued to have a hold on yardings, with quality mixed across the penning. Well finished and plainer lines were well represented, with most of the usual buyers present and competing strongly in a dearer market.
Mutton consignments declined 56%, to 1,750 head. Quality was very mixed, with Merino ewes selling to a dearer trend.
- Trade weight 4 score old lambs to slaughter were up 26¢, on 554¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 4 score old lambs were 38¢ dearer, averaging 555¢/kg cwt
- Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs were up 33¢, to 544¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes averaged 410¢, up 47¢/kg cwt
Throughput at Ballarat decreased 10%, to 15,706 head. Quality remained average to good in sections, with the regular buyers operating very keenly in damper conditions and a dearer trend underlining the sale.
Mutton numbers declined 27%, to 4,826 head. All weights and grades were on offer, with quality mixed across the penning.
- Light weight 2 score old lambs held firm, averaging 546¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score old lambs averaged 580¢, up 24¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 4 score old lambs were 31¢ dearer, averaging 587¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes averaged 379¢, up 51¢/kg cwt
At the close of Tuesday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator finished on 532¢, up 3¢/kg cwt on where it finished the previous day
- Merino lambs were up 6¢, at 494¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs were up 7¢, at 528¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were up 3¢, to 533¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs were up 9¢, at 537¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator eased 3¢, on 340¢/kg cwt
