Wednesday daily sheep summary

Consignments at Forbes increased 2%, to 31,235 head. Quality was similar across most categories week-on-week, with finished and plainer lines in good supply. The usual buyers were present and competed strongly in a firm to easier market overall.
Mutton numbers increased 16%, to 7,247 head. Quality was fair, with a good selection of medium and heavy weight lines.
- Trade weight 4 score old lambs averaged 529¢, up 5¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 4 score old lambs to processors lowered 4¢, to 518¢/kg cwt
- Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs averaged 510¢, up 1¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes averaged 334¢, up 37¢/kg cwt
Lamb numbers at Ballarat increased 20% this week, to 25,011 head. Quality was good, with all weights and grades on offer. A cheaper trend underlined the sale, with lines to suit restocker, feeder and processing orders all well supplied.
Mutton throughput increased 52%, to 9,356 head. Quality was mixed, with all categories well represented and Merino ewes in good supply.
- Light weight 2 score old lambs to restockers jumped 16¢, to 539¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score old lambs to processors eased 31¢, to 549¢/kg cwt
- Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs averaged 517¢, back 23¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 3 score first-cross ewes were back 4¢, to 278¢/kg cwt
At the close of Tuesday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator finished at 543¢, back 2¢/kg cwt on where it finished yesterday.
- Merino lambs were up 1¢, to 468¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs were back 3¢, to 504¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were back 2¢, at 518¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs were back 3¢, to 510¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator was up 6¢, to 309¢/kg cwt
