Wednesday daily cattle summary

Cattle numbers at Roma Store decreased considerably this week, to 1,791 head, due to widespread rain across the supply region. The yarding consisted predominantly of light weight yearlings. The usual feedlot buyers were in attendance.

  • Light C2 yearling steers to restockers gained 21¢, averaging 379¢/kg
  • Light D2 yearling heifers to restockers were up 7¢, averaging 327¢/kg
  • Medium D3 cows to processors averaged 255¢, up 21¢/kg

Throughput at CTLX decreased 57% this week, to 1,560 head. Quality was fair with yearling categories making up the bulk of the yarding, while prime cattle were in short supply. Grown steers and bullocks were better supplied, with the usual buyers in attendance and an extra exporter present.

  • Medium C2 yearling steers to feed averaged 365¢, up 8¢/kg
  • Heavy C3 yearling steers to feed increased by 14¢, averaging 361¢/kg
  • Medium D2 cows to processors finished 20¢ dearer, averaging 243¢/kg

NVLX Wodonga cattle numbers decreased 3%, to 1,100 head. The mixed quality yarding included a good selection of supplementary fed yearlings and heavy grown steers. The usual group of buyers attended with a stronger presence of northern restocking competition.

  • Heavy C2 yearling steers to feed were up 15¢, averaging 344¢/kg
  • Medium C2 yearling heifers to feed gained 16¢, averaging 322¢/kg
  • Heavy C3 grown steers to processors averaged 332¢, up 11¢/kg

At the close of Tuesday’s markets:                                                                            

  • The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) averaged 634.00¢, up 8.75¢/kg cwt on where it finished the previous day
  • Trade steers were up 1¢, at 340¢/kg lwt
  • Medium steers were up 24¢, to 337¢/kg lwt
  • Heavy steers were up 1¢, to 315¢/kg lwt
  • Medium cows were up 6¢, to 249¢/kg lwt
  • Feeder steers were up 2¢, to 350¢/kg lwt
