Tuesday daily sheep summary

Lamb consignments at Dubbo increased 21% this week, to 24,165 head. It was a fair quality yarding, with top heavy weight lines well supplied, along with a reasonable selection of light and trade weight categories.

Mutton throughput decreased 25%, to 6,075 head. Most grades were represented in a good quality yarding overall. The market continued to strengthen, with most categories lifting in price.

  • Light weight 2 score old lambs to processors averaged 600¢, up 36¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score old lambs to slaughter were 33¢ dearer, at 576¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score old lambs averaged 586¢, up 18¢/kg cwt
  • Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs were 31¢ dearer, at 606¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes averaged 372¢, up 29¢/kg cwt

Lamb numbers at Bendigo increased 33%, to 14,120 head. Supplementary fed lines gave yardings a good boost, with all the regular buyers operating in a dearer market. Strong bidding was seen for export and domestic categories showing good cover, with buyers more selective on the plainer drafts.

Mutton consignments increased 21%, to 2,325 head. A dearer trend underlined the sale, with a good supply of woolly Merinos and crossbred ewes penned.

  • Light weight 2 score first-cross old lambs eased 16¢, to 550¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score first-cross old lambs were up 3¢, to 537¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 3 score first-cross old lambs were down 3¢, to 538¢/kg cwt
  • Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs averaged jumped 4¢, at 532¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight  2 score Merino ewes averaged 353¢, up 4¢/kg cwt

At the close of Monday’s markets:

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator increased 4¢ on where it finished the previous day, on 542¢/kg cwt
  • Merino lambs were up 5¢, at 520¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs were up 7¢, at 552¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were up 3¢, on 565¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs were up 1¢, on 559¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator edged 1¢ higher on 351¢/kg cwt
