Thursday daily sheep summary

CTLX lamb consignments increased 4% this week, to 12,700 head. Quality was mixed across the yarding, with a fair selection of trade and heavy weight lines on offer. Categories suitable for restockers and fatteners were also well supplied, with the market trending cheaper overall.
Mutton throughput declined 22%, to 4,200 head. Quality was mostly plain, with only a few pens of well finished sheep seen across the yarding.
- Light weight 2 score old lambs to restockers averaged 507¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score old lambs to processors eased 34¢, to 514¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 4 score old lambs to slaughter lowered 17¢, at 486¢/kg
- Light weight 2 score Merino ewes averaged 260¢, back 27¢/kg
Consignments at Hamilton decreased 26% week-on-week, to 7,206 head. Quality ranged from poor to good across all categories, with many trade weight lines lacking cover and finish. Lamb prices eased overall, with not all buyers operating fully, resulting in an easing in competition.
Mutton numbers declined 11%, to 6,169 head. Competition between the usual array of buyers was spirited, with prices for medium to heavy sheep selling to a dearer trend.
- Light weight 2 score old lambs to processors eased 20¢, to 550¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score old lambs to slaughter were 8¢ lower, on 537¢/kg
- Medium weight 2 score first-cross ewes were 17¢ dearer, at 299¢/kg
At the close of Wednesday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator finished at 523¢, back 1¢/kg cwt on where it finished yesterday.
- Merino lambs were back 1¢, at 465¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs were back 4¢, on 491¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs were back 5¢, on 505¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs were back 2¢, on 499¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator was up 2¢, to 308¢/kg cwt
