Friday daily cattle summary

Throughput at Roma Prime doubled week-on-week, to 986 head, and overall quality was fair to good, with all the usual processors operating. Cows dominated the yarding, and bullocks were well-supplied.
- Heavy C4 grown steers averaged 279¢/kg
- Light D4 grown heifers eased 5¢, to average 254¢/kg
- Heavy D4 cows lifted 6¢, on 223¢/kg
- Heavy C3 bulls were back 4¢ on 228¢/kg
Consignments at Dubbo were down 39% week-on-week, to 1,500 head, following excellent rain across the supply area. It was a top quality yarding, with very good quality trade cattle on offer in most runs, along with well-finished bullocks and cows.
- Medium C2 yearling steers to feeders eased 5¢ on 317¢/kg
- Light C2 yearling heifers to feeders were up 4¢, to average 300¢/kg
- Light C4 grown heifers to processors averaged 293¢/kg, up 10¢/kg
- Heavy D4 cows to processors increased 14¢, on 226¢/kg
Numbers at Bairnsdale lifted 6%, to 1,132 head, with the usual buying group operating in a mostly dearer market. Overall quality was good, with a better selection of trade cattle penned. The increased offering of vealers sold to strong competition.
- Heavy C3 vealer steers to processors were 24¢ dearer, to average 329¢/kg
- Heavy C3 vealer heifers to processors increased 5¢, to average 325¢/kg
- Heavy D3 yearling heifers to processors averaged 292¢/kg, up 12¢/kg
- Heavy C3 grown steers to slaughter lifted 17¢, to 313¢/kg
At the close of Thursday’s markets:
- The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) averaged 565.50¢, down 1¢/kg cwt on where it finished the previous day
- Trade steers were unchanged, on 319¢/kg lwt
- Medium steers were down 3¢, on 269¢/kg lwt
- Heavy steers were down 2¢, on 283¢/kg lwt
- Medium cows were up 2¢, on 206¢/kg lwt
- Feeder steers were unchanged, at 310¢/kg lwt
