Global trade remained challenging for global exports in 2021 as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to create supply chain and logistical issues. Lower production also compounded the impact on Australian exports as herd rebuilding continued. However, increased prices across international markets kept export volumes high relative to production. As a result, exports represented 72% of total red meat production over the year. In total, Australia exported 1.45 million tonnes of red meat, a 10.4% decline from 2020 levels. -

Australia exported 133,444 tonnes of red meat in May, a 4% increase from May 2021. To date Australia has exported 557,265 tonnes of red meat this year, a 5% decline from the first five months of 2021. -

Australia exported 124,698 tonnes of red meat in September 2022, down 16% from August and down 6% from September 2021. Beef exports fell 12% year-on-year, while lamb exports rose 15%, mutton exports fell 9% and goat exports rose 23%. So far in 2022, Australia has exported 1,082,994 tonnes of red meat overall, 1% less than the first nine months of 2021. -
