    The cattle market has eased across all indicators. Yardings have eased by 3,898 to 75,856 head. Yardings eased in a majority of states except Tasmania and Victoria. Yardings are 30,758 head above the national average for the last five weeks.

    Restocker heifer prices maintain premium for 12 weeks straight
    15 February 2024
    For 12 weeks in a row, excluding holiday price anomalies, the restocker yearling heifer price has remained above the heavy steer indicator price. As of Thursday 15 February, the restocker yearling heifer indicator is 304¢/kg live weight (lwt), 10¢ above the heavy steer indicator at 294¢/kg lwt. This is the first extended period of a restocker heifer premium since early 2023.

    The cattle market was mixed this week with lifts to feeder and restocker steers, and easing in all other indicators. Yardings lifted week-to-week by 20,304 head to 74,172. A 38% lift to last week, and 98% year-on-year.

    Australian exports surge to fill gap in USA
    09 February 2024
    Australian red meat exports have started off strong in January, with total red meat exports 41% higher than January 2023 at 133,146 shipped weight tonnes (swt). Relatively high weekly slaughter across December and January has translated into higher export volumes, and lower production in the United States has generated demand for red meat in North America, resulting in export volumes more than doubling.
