    Key survey shows the shoots of optimism in Australian beef industry
    26 June 2024
    Australian beef producers have indicated growing optimism in the Australian beef industry according to the latest Beef Producer Intentions Survey (BPIS). The survey, run three times a year by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), has reported that one in two producers saw a positive outlook, resulting in a nett positive sentiment increase of 11% to 34% compared to the last survey in November 2023.

    Weekly cattle and sheep market wrap

    The market generally moved sideways this week. Yardings dipped by 7,349 to 53,655 head, despite the longer trading week in some states after the King’s Birthday long weekend. This was mostly due to a 9,974 head drop in Queensland yardings to 15,465 head. Yardings were smaller in every Queensland sale except Dalby.

    One of the four key work areas identified by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) in relation to the Carbon Neutral 2030 Roadmap refers to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from livestock. It has been discovered by researchers that the current equation used to determine the levels of enteric methane emissions from Australian feedlot cattle may overestimate emissions.
