After growing for three consecutive years through the 2020–2022 rebuild, the younger herd has now reached production maturity, pushing more processor-ready animals through sales channels.

    The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) continued to ease this week, softening 60¢ week-on-week. This brings the four-week price change to 126¢ in mid-June. The largest contributors to the indicator, Roma and Wagga Wagga, are contributing 29% collectively and are still trading at a premium on the national average.     Restocker heifer prices maintain premium for 12 weeks straight

    For 12 weeks in a row, excluding holiday price anomalies, the restocker yearling heifer price has remained above the heavy steer indicator price. As of Thursday 15 February, the restocker yearling heifer indicator is 304¢/kg live weight (lwt), 10¢ above the heavy steer indicator at 294¢/kg lwt. This is the first extended period of a restocker heifer premium since early 2023.
