    The cattle market was relatively mixed this week. Yardings lifted slightly, up 3,866 head (or 7%) to 58,596, though still below the numbers seen earlier in the year. Despite the short week last week, yardings fell in NSW and Tasmania due to several store sales. Queensland yardings lifted slightly 13,485 head, as the Queensland Monday sale was not covered this week.

    The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) had a relatively stable week this week after significant softening from pre-Christmas prices to 781.39c/kg carcase weight (cwt). The Western Young Cattle Indicator (WYCI) currently sits at a premium in comparison to the EYCI with the current rate at 857.25c/kg cwt.

    The cattle market mostly held firm this week, as yardings lifted 16% from last week to 47,548 head. Dryer conditions in Queensland improved attendance at saleyards from processors and exporters. The largest increase was seen in Roma, where cattle were drawn from far western QLD, NSW and the local area for a 7,411 head showing, 3,036 above the previous week.
