Australian cattle prices have continued to drop since the recent peak in November 2022, as concerns regarding global economic conditions grow alongside the expectation of higher supply in Australia. This has resulted in the Heavy Steer Indicator dropping by 24% to A351¢/kg live weight (lwt).

Cattle market prices were softer this week after a recovery in yardings from last week. Numbers in Queensland lifted by 3,598 head, with this increase largely being attributed to the Dalby sale which strengthened its yarding by 1,381 head week-on-week.

The new Processor Cow Indicator (previously the Medium Cow) shows that, due to current pressure of higher prices on the processors, buyers met with solid demand this week. This caused a stabilisation to occur in the market.
