The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) has strengthened 14¢ week-on-week on the back of a strong Roma sale, which contributed 13.4% of reporting head. The number of head reporting on the EYCI has improved this week to reach nearly 9,500, increasing the stability of the indicator.

National cattle yardings improved by 7,351 head, especially in Queensland and NSW. Throughput in the feeder steer indicator improved by 36% week-on-week. This has placed pricing pressures on the indicator which reached 384.83¢/kg live weight (lwt).

The cattle market has eased across all indicators. Yardings have eased by 3,898 to 75,856 head. Yardings eased in a majority of states except Tasmania and Victoria. Yardings are 30,758 head above the national average for the last five weeks.

National cattle yardings lifted to 49,273 head this week after last week’s wet weather reduced numbers at the saleyards.

The cattle market has shown signs of improvement across various indicators. Following the Easter break and bolstered by strong rainfall, yardings increased by 1,688 to reach 23,704 head – however, this is still a 61% drop from two weeks ago. Queensland witnessed the largest reduction in yardings, declining by 1019 to 5,869 head.
