Lamb throughput at Forbes increased 20% week-on-week, to 34,200 head, and quality improved on the previous sale, with an increased number of well-finished lambs penned.

Lamb consignments at Dubbo lifted 4% week-on-week, to 20,115 head, with a large proportion of light weights penned, along with good numbers of heavy weight lambs.

Lamb consignments throughout NSW reported markets increased by 13% week-on-week, for a total of 93,559 head. Dubbo slipped by 23%, at 19,420 lambs, as Tamworth lost 25% and penned 3,675 head.

Total lamb supply declined by 25% week-on-week to total 10,086 head. Consignments eased by 38% at Naracoorte to 1,536 head, while throughput at the SA Livestock Exchange slipped by 21%, offering 8,550 head.

Total lamb supply dropped by 23% week-on-week, with 33,314 head penned. Numbers at Horsham lifted by 3% to offer 5,212 lambs, while consignments at Hamilton fell by 4% to 5,531 head.

There was a larger yarding of trade and export cattle at Powranna and Killafaddy with just over 50% being cows. The market for trade cattle was cheaper but all still sold to strong processor, butcher and restocker competition.

Eastern states lamb supply, reported by MLA’s National Livestock Reporting Service, was firm week-on-week, at 136,959 head. Widespread rain last week may have helped lift sentiment and encouraged producers to retain lambs for longer.
