The cattle market continued to soften this week, despite rain tightening yardings across parts of the country. NSW and SA yardings remained firm, yet softened significantly in Victoria, Queensland and WA. The overall national volume ended the week below the weekly average for the year.

Cattle yardings are back 20% after the very large yardings from last week but are still 147% higher year-to-date. Supply from the extensive herd rebuild is reaching the market and is not expected to slow anytime soon.

Cattle supply kicked back into gear strongly this week with total national yardings reaching their highest level since late November 2020 at 60,254 head. This volume is 58% or 22,000 head above the weekly average for 2023.
