Summary

This project supported a group of producers in northern WA to benchmark their businesses, and engage in peer-learning. Key achievements of the group included increasing confidence and skills in business, feedbase, and herd management.

Objectives

The objectives of this project were to engage a group of beef breeding businesses in northern WA to benchmark, undertake training activities, and facilitate peer-to-peer learning.

Key findings

This pilot project provided key lessons in setting up peer-learning groups and benchmarking programs in the region, which will be used to build on the NB2 program.

Despite disruptions, the group showed commitment and was able to travel large distances to meet together, learn from one another's businesses, and engage in training activities.

Benefits to industry

This project supported training in business and herd recording skills and feedbase management skills, and fostered peer relationships for a group of producers managing a large land area in northern WA.

MLA action

MLA continues to support the NB2 program through new facilitated peer groups building on the lessons from the pilot phase.

Future research

Future research, development and adoption projects will continue to support building capacity in the northern WA beef industry, and understanding of the region's unique environment and production systems.
