Summary

This project supported the pilot NB2 program by managing producer group funds that could be used for groups to engage in learning and development activities they identified. Six groups, representing 47 businesses were engaged during this phase of the project.

Objectives

The objective of this project was to establish and maintain an appropriate system to manage and facilitate the appropriate flow of producer funds to their NB2 groups, ensuring good governance over the funds.

Key findings

The project successfully administered producer funds.

Benefits to industry

Groups were able to re-invest their contributions into learning and development activities that directly addressed their business needs. This included focusing on nutrition, environmental sustainability, business and human resource management, and reproductive management.

MLA action

MLA is continuing to support groups using the NB2 model past the pilot program.

Future research

MLA continues to invest in research, development and adoption projects, including NB2, to increase the viability of northern beef enterprises.
