Summary

ExoFlare’s ‘Transport app’ is currently being trialled within the pork industry to collect real-time information on truck journeys and conditions, in order to produce a detailed and traceable digital record of animal movement between producers, transporters, and processors. The purpose of this project is to adapt and demonstrate Exoflare’s transport app within the cattle and sheep industry.

Objectives

The objective of this project is to adapt Exoflare’s transport app and demonstrate its use in the cattle and sheep industry. This project will develop and pilot the transport app in one cattle and one sheep supply chain. The aim of this project is to demonstrate that data obtained by the transport app can generate significant new benefits and value across the supply chain when compared to the existing paper-based solution

Key findings

The project demonstrated significant potential to use data to create new operational efficiencies, increase traceability, and deliver animal welfare benefits across the supply chain compared to paper-based approaches. This project surfaced substantive differences between the needs of livestock transportation in intensive industries (e.g., pork) and the wider red meat industry.

Benefits to industry

This benefit to industry is the delivery of a commercial solution for the supply chain that captures real time animal transport biosecurity risks to support operational efficiency, traceability and animal welfare outcomes.

MLA action

Integrity Systems Company/Meat & Livestock Australia will continue exploring avenues to allow API-level integration between third-party platforms with the eNVD system to maximise the value delivered to industry stakeholders.
