Summary

This project delivered six e-Learning modules, to provide training on the concepts of genetics and genetic tools to producers and livestock advisors.

Objectives

1. Develop six online learning modules specific to beef genetics tools and technologies.
2. Develop a monitoring, evaluation and reporting (MER) framework within each of the four modules to adequately assess knowledge change of participants.
3. Develop a communications plan, in collaboration with MLA, to promote the availability and use of these online learning modules.
4. Engage two external stakeholders in the development of the four modules to ensure the technical integrity and suitability of messaging.
5. Pilot the modules with a minimum of three intended end-users, to ensure that each module meets the needs of the target audiences.
6. Integrate changes from review and piloting feedback, and deliver four finalised e-learning modules.
7. Assist with MLA (Genetics and Capacity Building managers) during input to the MLA e-learning platform.

Key findings

As this is an adoption project, no research was conducted and no key findings were found.

Benefits to industry

These modules will expedite producer knowledge on genetic tools and technologies, to drive genetic progress and improve the bottom line of their livestock operations. This is also a learning platform for advisors who have a basic understanding of genetics but have not previously worked in the beef genetics adoption space (e.g. many of those who applied to deliver MLA’s BredWell FedWell program have a strong nutrition background, and limited genetics experience).

MLA action

MLA continues to deliver accessible training modules, supporting producers and livestock advisors to learn and develop their skills.

Future research

As this is an adoption project, no research was conducted and no further research is required.
