Summary

In 2018-19 the Australian Government undertook a review of the Australian Standards for the Export of Livestock (ASEL) and a new version – ASEL v3.0 – has been released and will be implemented on 1 November 2020. The funds allocated to this project have delivered an updated ASEL App and updated course content that will be integrated into the LiveCorp Stockperson's Course to align with ASEL 3.0 requirements.

Objectives

To update the LiveCorp/Meat & Livestock Australian Livestock Export Program (LEP) mobile phone application of the Australian Standards for the Export of Livestock (ASEL) (for Android and iOS) handbook to accurately replicate recent amendments to the standards as per ASEL v3.0.
Develop on-line training for LiveCorp Accredited Stockpersons that covers the changes to ASEL following the introduction of ASEL v3.0. The training package will include a voiced-over power-point file that covers all the key changes to the ASEL and a set of assessment questions that will enable LiveCorp to assign re-accreditation to existing stock-people. The materials will be available in mid-September and will be designed for delivery through the LiveCorp Online Training Platform.

Key findings

The content of the LiveCorp Stockperson's Course and the ASEL app are updated to reflect version 3.0 of the new ASEL that was implemented 1 November 2020.

Benefits to industry

The publications and materials are reviewed regularly to reflect changes in knowledge and/or the operating environment. This is particularly important where a publication or tool replicates or is presented as an accurate representation of regulatory obligations, ie ASEL 3.0.
The Australian Government has recently completed a regulatory update of ASEL and has released a new version of the standards – ASEL v3.0 (www.agriculture.gov.au/export/controlled-goods/live-animals/livestock/australian-standards-livestock). This project has maximised the previous LEP investment in the ASEL app, by continuing to maintain its relevance, accuracy and value.
The updates support broad awareness among exporters, supply chain participants regulators and industry bodies of the new ASEL requirements and contribute to implementation activities.

Future research

Regular review of this documentation to align with changes to regulation.
