Summary

The Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program is an on-farm assurance program underpinning market access for Australian red meat. Producers who choose to participate in the LPA program must commit to carrying out on-farm practices that underpin the integrity of the entire system by providing assurance in relation to the food safety and quality of Australia’s red meat. LPA-accredited producers may be audited to verify how their practices meet the LPA requirements in relation to food safety, biosecurity, and animal welfare.

Objectives

The purpose of this project was to analyse the available datasets associated with LPA to determine if the datasets could be linked further and be utilised to gain program and compliance insights. Then secondly conduct a deep dive analysis to identify if machine learning was possible to deliver LPA conformance trends to enable data driven decisions for LPA program to improve compliance.

Benefits to industry

The benefit is to identify nonconformity trends for LPA auditing, thus improving, and streamlining the auditing process for the LPA program.

Future research

MLA will continue to invest in developing a LPA compliance framework that is data driven.
