Summary

The European Union Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) is a government backed program for reporting the environmental impacts of a product or organisation, covering the full supply chain back to primary production. While there is policy uncertainty about its implementation, there is sufficient momentum in this program to warrant trade-exposed industries in Australia to consider the implications for their supply chain prior to implementation in the EU market from 2021.

This project supports the Australian's industries engagement on a technical level to monitor the potential implementation of the PEF and provide insights and information into the PEF development process.

Objectives

This project supports the Australian's industries engagement on a technical level to monitor the potential implementation of the PEF and provide insights and information into the PEF development process.

Key findings

The PEF program has the potential to further limit Australia's access to the European market, this project mitigates this risk by providing relevant information to European technical advisory groups and ensures the industry is best equipped to engage with the potential PEF labelling.
