Summary

This project supported preparing documentation for the Livestock Language Review Expert group, in the form of Recommended National Standards and a Glossary of Terms, to be used in Industry Consultation.

Industry consultation will result in final documents to be presented to the Australian Meat Industry Language and Standards Committee for endorsement.

Objectives

  • Collate an analysis of Stage one (comprehensive assessment and mapping of the terms and systems used in the Australian Bovine Livestock Language) to identify any further gaps and identify areas that should or shouldn’t be pursued in the review.
  • Provide a central point of contact for the expert group to collate feedback and refine the analysis further.
  • Prepare draft documents of a Glossary of Terms and Recommended National Standards to be used in Stage Two – Industry Consultation.

Benefits to industry

A recommendation from the Beef Language review was for the expert committee to be developed to review the Bovine Livestock Language. The purpose of this group is to create a section within the existing language, standardise terminology and ensure common description across all trading and production categories.

This benefits industry as it standardises the language used by all parties so that carcase and chiller assessment data can be linked to genetic evaluation programs. This project supports this work.

MLA action

MLA will support further work as this project moves into the final stages for industry consultation and language reviews.
