Summary

The overarching purpose of Farmers2Farmers (F2F) is to deliver a unique support system designed to attract and develop proactive, innovative Australian primary producers looking to grow and transform their businesses through cutting edge innovation and adoption of new technologies.

Objectives

F2F will develop producer entrepreneurship and technology capabilities so they can solve critical industry challenges and successfully bring new agtech, foodtech, and food ventures to market. A key goal of F2F is to continue to improve and evolve the design of programs based on observations surrounding the start-up journey and participant feedback.

Key findings

As this was the fourth year of operations for Farmers2Founders, an initial impact evaluation of all 22 red meat concepts and new ventures that have participated in the programs during this period was undertaken. While still in a relatively early stage of development, it has been demonstrated that at the early pre-accelerator stage, entrepreneurs were able to take their concepts from Technology Readiness Level (TRL)1 to at least three in the majority of cases, with several outstanding successes progressing to TRL 7/8 though the programs.

Benefits to industry

The project developed producer entrepreneurship and technology capabilities so they can solve critical industry challenges and successfully bring new agtech, foodtech, and food ventures to market.

Future research

The size of the Farmers2Founders portfolio has reached a critical mass, and a new Venture Growth Studio will be introduced. All accelerator participants will be assessed for eligibility to become a participant. The Growth Studio will focus on:
- scaling the business
- accessing new segments and markets (focus on global via. programs such as GROW2Asia)
- accelerating adoption in the Australian market (via F2F TEKFARM program)
- raising capital.
