Summary
MLA is developing the Carbon EDGE training program to equip producers with the knowledge and skills to identify opportunities for emissions reduction and carbon storage within their livestock grazing business. The program will help participants work through a carbon account, identify relevant practices or technologies and formulate an action plan to reduce their carbon position in alignment with their business goals. Carbon EDGE will soon be available to grassfed beef, sheep and goat producers Australia-wide.
Objectives
The objective of this project was to develop the technical materials to underpin the development of the Carbon EDGE training program and supporting resources. This project delivered a technical manual covering ag emissions-101 (markets, policies, trends), emissions reduction strategies, carbon sequestration strategies, carbon accounting, and business-level action planning/market opportunities.
Benefits to industry
Carbon EDGE will provide a practical program for producers to work towards the industry's CN30 (Carbon Neutral 2030) goal and will contribute to the upskilling of livestock advisors to support producers in this process.
MLA action
MLA is now working on the development of the Carbon EDGE extension materials, workshop design and pilot workshops.
Future research
Further investment is already underway, with the material being developed into a full suite of materials and an EDGEnetwork workshop. This will be incorporated into the ongoing EDGEnetwork program.
