Summary

The Rural R&D for Profit project ‘Forewarned is Forearmed’ (FWFA) has equipped farmers and agricultural value chains to proactively manage the impacts of extreme climate events. As part of this project, five new Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) forecast products for extreme events in the weeks, months and seasons ahead have been created. Three short videos were produced by this project to demonstrate how southern red meat, dairy, grains and wine grape production systems can use the tools developed by the BoM.

Objectives

Produce 3 short videos of the FWFA operational products, that:
a. Explain how to read and understand the new extreme event forecast products.
b. Demonstrate why and how producers can use forecast products to make improved decisions on farm
c. Provide ongoing awareness and knowledge around their use in agricultural decision making.
d. Provide access to the videos on the MLA website and make available for others

Benefits to industry

The videos developed in this project provide a simple explanation to the outputs of the Forewarned is Forearmed project and an ongoing resource to industry that will allow people to stay informed of the tools developed.
