Summary

This project covered the Annual Service Agreement for Cattle Australia (formerly Cattle Council of Australia), covering consultation, animal health & welfare and biosecurity activities, industry leadership and capability building and adoption activities for the grassfed cattle sector.

Objectives

  • Consultation with the grassfed cattle industry to provide information on national grassfed sector priorities to MLA, to inform investments in RD&A and marketing.
  • Encourage adoption of MLA R&D outcomes by cattle producers.
  • Provide input into national cattle animal health and welfare and biosecurity activities and initiatives.
  • Build industry leadership and capability for the cattle production sector.

Key findings

  • CA (Cattle Australia) provided grassfed cattle sector priorities to MLA for consideration in investment decisions.
  • A number of professional development opportunities were provided to emerging leaders to build capability in the sector.
  • Input was provided into national animal health, welfare and biosecurity activities.
  • MLA R&D outcomes were communicated to members.

The representative organisation for the grassfed cattle sector supported to carry out initiatives identified as priorities by the sector.

MLA action

MLA continues to support industry leadership and capability building for the red meat industry. Feedback from a number of initiatives within the project has been incorporated in planning for the FY22 service agreement, to provide more targeted investments and use of funds.

MLA will continue to use information collected through the CA Service Agreement to inform investment decisions in line with Red Meat 2030.
