Summary
The Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program is the Australian livestock industry’s on-farm food safety certification program. LPA aims to assist the prevention of contamination in, and the management of risks associated with contamination in, livestock products through supporting livestock industries’ use of National Vendor Declarations (NVDs) and on-farm quality assurance programs.
Objectives
Assist the prevention of contamination in, and the management of risks associated with contamination in, livestock products.
To achieve this support of livestock industries’ through the use of National Vendor Declarations (NVDs) and on-farm quality assurance programs.
Benefits to industry
In November 2015, SAFEMEAT endorsed the SAFEMEAT Initiatives Review recommendation that a single company be given overall responsibility for the management and delivery of industry’s integrity systems including the National Livestock Identification System, the LPA program and NVDs.
MLA action
On 5 April 2017, the ownership of the LPA program was transferred from AUS-MEAT to NLIS Ltd. NLIS Ltd is now the owner and administrator of the LPA program, and manages all activities associated with the LPA program on behalf of the red meat and livestock industry.
