Summary
The use of vaccinations and pain relief products is a topic of particular interest to producers and advisors, and as such, MLA developed sessions on these topics as part of Livestock Advisor Updates, with materials prepared to be converted into factsheets and made available more widely to industry. This project covered the development of sessions and fact sheets for the south and west of Australia.
Objectives
The objectives of this project were:
• To prepare vaccination and pain mitigation presentation for southern and western
cattle and sheep systems, including abstract and presenter biography for inclusion in event proceedings.
• To create fact sheets outlining vaccine and pain mitigation use for southern and western
cattle and sheep systems.
Key findings
- Presentations were held at Livestock Advisor Update events for the southern and western regions on vaccination and pain relief over a two-year period from 2020-2022.
- Five fact sheets were created and have been widely promoted and distributed by MLA. These include three fact sheets on pain mitigation and two on vaccination for both sheep and southern cattle systems.
Benefits to industry
Producers and advisors are now easily able to access information on best practice management for vaccination and pain mitigation in sheep and southern cattle systems. Webinars on these topics are also available on the MLA youtube page.
MLA action
Fact sheets will now be turned into eLearning packages and made available through the Toolbox. Northern fact sheets will also be created.
Future research
The same fact sheets should now be created for northern cattle producers to ensure extension materials around best practice vaccination and pain mitigation are available nationally.
