FY19/20 MSA Program Costs

Did you know in 2019–20, the MSA program delivered an estimated $172m in additional farm gate returns to MSA beef producers. It represented 46% of national adult cattle slaughter and 22% of national lamb slaughter.

Summary

This CMA is to cover the operational costs of the Meat Standards Australia (Eating Quality) program in the 2019–20 financial year. It covers the operations of running integrity and business development activities across the supply chain.

Objectives

The CMA is in place to support an operating team of 14 people that conduct integrity and business development activities for the MSA program. This supports the objective of ensuring the MSA program is delivering upon its Standards and brand owners are supported to extract the greatest value possible from their adoption of MSA.

Key findings

The CMA enabled MLA to conduct integrity and business development activities with over 50 processors, over 2000 producers participating in MSA education sessions and almost 3000 new producers becoming MSA registered.

The MSA program in 2019–20 delivered an estimated $172m in additional farm gate returns to MSA beef producers.

MLA action

MLA is using the outcomes of 2019–20 operations to identify the next opportunities to drive growth and demand for MSA across the supply chain.

Future research

The MSA operations will be ongoing and adjusted to suit the requirements of stakeholders.
