Summary

Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) is making available a number of awards, for students at Australian universities or institutions undertaking PhD study commencing in 2019. The awards facilitate research and training in areas of practical value to the Australian beef, sheepmeat and goatmeat industries. The awards are designed to ‘top up’ remuneration held by students.

Objectives

The purpose of these scholarships is to incentivise research and development in the red meat industry rather than other alternative industries. These projects aim to build candidates' capability in the red meat sector which may then be taken forward into their future careers, either as early career scientists or within the red meat industry.

Key findings

The scholarship recipient completed a PhD titled: Genomic- and culture-enabled analyses of host-associated methanogenic archaea.
