Summary

​Forage Oat (Avena sativa L.) is a winter forage crop in sub-tropical regions and is widely grown in central and sth Qld and nth NSW.Around 2006 MLA, DAFQ and Heritage Seeds collaborated to develop new rust resistant varieties for Forage Oats, with improved yield.  Heritage Seeds commercialising Volta, Galileo and Genie developed from the MLA Donor Company (MDC) investment, as well as identifying germplasm for further breeding. This project ‘B.CMM.0048 Heritage Seeds Forage Oats Phase 1 was set up to recoup royalties, which are no longer due.
