Summary
Sample storage agreement between AGRF and MLA/AWI expired on June 30 2012. MLA/AWI did not renew storage agreement for Falker Sheep Genomics Program blood and DNA samples that were accrued over the life of the program because there has been negligible use of the reference samples over the last two years since the wind up of the research program.
SGP participants have been consulted and UNE, acting under the SGP wind-up agreement has offered to become the ongoing custodian of all DNA samples and blood samples which have quality phenotype data held in data bases. UNE is a key participant in the Sheep-CRC and the samples my add value to the legacy of on-going research through the CRC. Once the samples were securely transported to UNE this will end MLA's financial obligations to the ongoing secure storage of the samples.
