Summary
Salmonellosis and inanition have been recognised as the most common causes of mortality in the live sheep trade for over 30 years. Assembly depot managers and shipboard veterinarians manage sheep health problems according to their previous experience and knowledge. During the LIVE.123 project variable approaches were observed regarding the management of sheep with salmonellosis and inanition. A review of relevant literature relating to the treatment of salmonella and inanition was undertaken and this document has then been used to guide the development of two key priority research projects into DAM Salmonella Scoping Study and Feedlotting Strategies to reduce inanition in sheep.
