Summary
This project with ABARE was to investigate the influence of management practices on farms comparing total factor productivity index (TFP) and profitability (as measured by rate of return, excluding capital appreciation - ROR). Regression Tree Analysis is a powerful interrogative statistical tool that groups the data into subsets on the basis of the best explanatory variable.
This analysis was undertaken to gain insights into the most significant factors that explain the variability evident in producers productivity and return on capital. The management practices investigated in the 2006 supplementary survey conducted by ABARE were used as the explanatory variables.
