Summary

The Australian Meat Processor Corporation (AMPC) and Meat & Livestock Australia Ltd (MLA) and their preceding corporations have long recognised that the Australian Meat Industry must remain globally competitive, and in order to do so, there is a need for a collectively-funded mechanism to provide the Australian red meat industry with information, advisory services, technology transfer programs and short-term R&D that assist processors to compete effectively on the world markets by adopting new technology and R&D outcomes.
From 1 October 1998, Food Science Australia (FSA) has provided these services, most recently under Contract PRIT.005.  In 2004, a review of the project was undertaken by MLA to determine that a) there was a high level of processor satisfaction with the services provided by FSA and, in particular, that companies were able to report positive impact arising from the services and b) FSA were the most appropriate organisation to deliver these services.  Based on this review (and as agreed by the AMPC Board) it is proposed that FSA continue to provide R & D technology transfer services to the meat processing industry for the period until 30 June 2007.  The project is funded by AMPC with matching R & D dollars via MLA.  MLA manages the project and AMPC has agreed to continue funding to June 2007 subject to annual review and a six month’s termination clause
