Summary

To evaluate the development of a viable facility enabling meat sheep stud breeders to objectively test rams for genetic differences in growth rate and fat depth.Within this broad objective the project aimed to:

Develop recommendations and guidelines to government and industry regarding the feasibility and practical design of a performance testing scheme for the Australian meat sheep breeding industry

Develop and implement, in conjunction with the N.S.W. meat sheep stud industry, the N.S.W. Meatsheep Testing Service, to provide a In t-del scheme for other organisations and accumulate a large database

Provide a large industry data base on Australian meatsheep breeds to give a sound technical basis for operational guidelines, adjustment procedures, parameter estimates and development of recommended breeding programmes.
