MLA to report on AuctionsPlus sales

28 January 2021

Key points:

  • MLA’s National Livestock Reporting Service (NLRS) is now reporting on online sheep and cattle sales
  • The NLRS will report on AuctionsPlus’s scheduled Tuesday sheep sales, and Friday cattle sales
  • Online auction platforms now account for over 6% of national livestock transactions.

The NLRS has added Australia’s biggest online livestock sales platform, AuctionsPlus, to its list of reported saleyards.

As of today, Thursday 28 January, producers will be able to access NLRS reporting on AuctionsPlus’s Tuesday sheep sales and Friday cattle sales.

The decision to report on AuctionsPlus reflects the growing uptake of online sales platforms for livestock transactions. Online sales now account for more than 6% of national transactions, making AuctionsPlus the second biggest saleyard in the country.

With the rise of COVID-19 throughout 2020, this growth only increased, as producers have been unable to attend physical saleyards. As such, it has become an increasingly high priority that online transactions are reported for producers to better understand market movements.

The decision to report on AuctionsPlus sales allows the NLRS and MLA Market Information to deliver and promote market price transparency and accuracy.
