Latest climate outlook for autumn

28 February 2019

The updated Bureau of Meteorology three-month climate outlook is indicating a dry end to an already disappointing northern wet season, as well as a dry start to the southern cool season.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology’s recently released climate outlook for autumn, drier-than-average conditions are likely for much of northern and eastern Australia. The timing for autumn break rainfall in southern Australia is likely to be average or later than average.

The figure below indicates the stark contrast between this autumn update and the outlook released just two weeks ago.

The forecast is concerning for livestock producers and crop growers alike, as lower-layer soils for many key cropping regions are already much drier than usual.
