Friday daily sheep summary

This week at Wagga, lamb supplies decreased 10%, to 26,000 head. Quality improved across trade categories in particular, with a reasonable yarding of heavy lambs on offer and buyers operating strongly for extra heavy lots. Processors bid keenly on well-bred store types, while the usual export buyers were also in attendance.
Mutton numbers declined 33%, to 6,000 head. A mixed quality offering of sheep were yarded this week, with the usual buyers present and trade types selling mostly dearer.
- Light weight 2 score Old lambs to restockers averaged 35¢ dearer, at 753¢/kg cwt
- Trade weight 3 score Old lambs to processors gained 18¢, to 649¢/kg cwt
- Heavy weight 3 score Old lambs to slaughter averaged 640¢, up 10¢/kg cwt
- Extra heavy weight 4 score Old lambs were up 15¢, averaging 630¢/kg cwt
- Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes averaged 22¢ dearer, at 408¢/kg cwt
At the close of Thursday’s markets:
- The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 642¢, increasing 8¢/kg cwt from the previous day.
- Merino lambs averaged 562¢, up 6¢/kg cwt
- Light lambs averaged 605¢, up 7¢/kg cwt
- Trade lambs averaged 611¢, up 4¢/kg cwt
- Heavy lambs gained 3¢, to 613¢/kg cwt
- The mutton indicator settled 6¢ cheaper, to 402¢/kg cwt
