Friday daily sheep summary

03 March 2017

Lamb numbers declined this week at Wagga, with 29,000 head yarded. Quality also declined, with plenty of the trade and light lambs showing dryness and as a result, price trends tended to be mixed. Buyers paid a premium for shorn drafts of heavy lambs while plainer types attracted substantial discounts and restocker competition was steady for light weigh well-bred lambs.

Mutton numbers lifted to 9,000 head in a mixed quality offering and Merinos were keenly sought after.

  • 3 score trade weight old lambs to processors eased 16¢, averaging 631¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight, 4 score old lambs to processors also eased 16¢, selling between 303¢ and 663¢ and averaging 615¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight, 2 score Merino ewes averaged 386¢, up 3¢/kg cwt
