Friday daily sheep summary

Lamb supplies at Wagga lifted 15% this week, to 38,000 head. Quality was very mixed, with lambs in full wool presenting in very dry condition due to the prolonged hot weather. A reasonable offering of trade and heavy drafts were on offer, with buyers paying a premium for shorn lines. Although sporadic, lighter weights continued to attract strong interest from restockers – while the usual domestic and export buyers were also in attendance.

Mutton consignments remained unchanged this week, at 7,000 head. A mixed yarding was on offer to the usual buyers, with plenty of weight represented throughout.

• Light weight 2 score Old lambs to restockers gained 5¢, averaging 757¢/kg cwt
• Trade weight 3 score Old lambs to slaughter were back 58¢, at 647¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 3 score Old lambs to processors eased 78¢, to 637¢/kg cwt
• Extra heavy weight 4 score Old lambs slipped 32¢, to 630¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes dropped 26¢, to 383¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 695¢, easing 2¢/kg cwt from the previous day.
• Merino lambs averaged 593¢,back 5¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs averaged 621¢, up 2¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs averaged 641¢, back 6¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs eased 10¢, averaging 645¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator finished 6¢ lower, at 416¢/kg cwt
