Friday daily sheep summary

This week at Wagga, lamb numbers increased 12%, to 33,000 head. Remaining fairly similar, quality was very good throughout most sections – with most drafts coming off lucerne or grain. Extra heavy lines were well supplied, with shorn lambs particularly well represented and all buyers operating strongly.

Sheep consignments declined 29%, to 7,000 head. It was a very mixed yarding this week, with the usual group of buyers active and the market trending firm to slightly easier compared to the previous sale.

• Light weight 2 score old lambs to restockers reached 795¢, averaging 752¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 3 score old lambs to processors averaged 716¢/kg cwt
• Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs gained 14¢, averaging 662¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes gained 27¢, averaging 441¢/kg cwt

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 754¢, increasing 24¢/kg cwt from the previous day
• Merino lambs averaged 596¢, up 6¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs averaged 637¢, up 6¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs averaged 664¢, jumping 10¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs gained 8¢, averaging 671¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator finished 11¢ higher, at 441¢/kg cwt
