Friday daily sheep summary

This week, Wagga consignments eased 34%, to 29,500 head. Quality throughout the offering slipped on the previous sale, with most categories showing the effects of the recent hot and dry weather. Despite a large percentage of the yarding lacking condition, buyer competition remained strong – with restocker bidding intensifying for the limited supply of well finished lambs in particular.

Mutton throughput remained fairly steady week-on-week, at 9,900 head. Overall quality was fair, with medium weight Merinos well supplied.

• Light weight 2 score old lambs to restockers reached 750¢, averaging 649¢, back 122¢/kg cwt
• Trade weight 3 score old lambs to processors slipped 35¢, to 622¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight score 4 old lambs eased 18¢, averaging 653¢/kg cwt 
• Extra heavy ­­weight 4 score old lambs jumped 13¢, averaging 649¢/kg cwt.
• Medium weight 3 score Merino ewe dropped 28¢, averaging 414¢/kg cwt 

At the close of Thursday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 665¢, declining 18¢/kg cwt from the previous day
• Merino lambs averaged 564¢, up 1¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs averaged 615¢, down 9¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs averaged 618¢, down 5¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs held firm at 625¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator finished 7¢ lower, at 410¢/kg cwt
