Wednesday daily cattle summary

Consignments at Roma Store declined 55% this week, yarding 3,150 head. Rainfall across parts of the south west saw prices hold firm to dearer across most classes, with competition remaining strong between attending feeder buyers particularly.

  • Light C2 yearling steers gained 11¢, to 350¢, while medium C3 lines to feed eased 6¢, averaging 320¢/kg
  • Heavy C3 yearling steers to feed settled 12¢ dearer, averaging 314¢/kg
  • Light D2 yearling heifers to restockers averaged 310¢, up 18¢/kg

CTLX cattle throughput decreased 38%, to 1,333 head. Quality remained average, with rain across the supply area having an effect on yardings. Although most suited feeder orders, prime young cattle lines were limited, with the usual buyers in attendance.

  • Medium C2 yearling steers to feed jumped 21¢, averaging 352¢/kg
  • Medium D2 cows to processors averaged 222¢, up 42¢/kg
  • Light C2 grown heifers to restockers gained 56¢, averaging 265¢/kg

Yardings at NVLX Wodonga decreased 22%, to 815 head. Wet weather continued to have an effect on supply, with most grass fed cattle penned lacking finish. Domestic buyers competed strongly for vealer categories, with most buyers in attendance.

  • Medium C2 vealer steers to restockers averaged 334¢, up 5¢/kg  
  • Heavy C2 yearling steers to feed averaged 320¢, up 1¢/kg
  • Heavy C3 grown steers to processors were back 12¢, to 313¢/kg  

At the close of Tuesday’s markets:                                                                            

  • The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) averaged 588.25¢, up 2.75¢/kg cwt on where it finished the previous day
  • Trade steers were up 7¢, at 318¢/kg lwt
  • Medium steers were up 8¢, on 304¢/kg lwt
  • Heavy steers were back 2¢, on 290¢/kg lwt
  • Medium cows were up 2¢, on 223¢/kg lwt
  • Feeder steers were up 5¢, on 326¢/kg lwt
