Tuesday daily sheep summary

Lamb numbers at Dubbo decreased 12% this week, to 11,470 head. It was a mixed yarding overall, with trade and heavy weight sections well supplied. Light weight lines suitable for slaughter held firm, with trade weight lambs trending marginally cheaper overall.

Mutton throughput declined 28%, to 7,020 head. It was a good quality yarding, with some top lines of Merino and crossbred sections on offer.

• New season light weight 2 score lambs to restockers were back 36¢, to 547¢/kg cwt
• Old season trade weight 3 score lambs to slaughter eased 15¢, to 560¢/kg cwt
• Old season heavy weight 4 score lambs to processors gained 29¢, to 597¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 4 score Merino ewes finished 13¢ higher, at 395¢/kg cwt

Lamb consignments at Hamilton increased 58%, to 34,872 head. Quality varied across all categories, as most presented in good to average condition, while all weights and grades were on offer. The usual group of processors were in attendance, with light lambs selling to strong competition and trending dearer as a result.

• New season light weight 2 score restocker lambs were 55¢ dearer, at 631¢/kg cwt
• New season trade weight 3 score lambs to processors were up 1¢, averaging 500¢/kg cwt
• New season heavy weight 4 score lambs eased 13¢, averaging 495¢/kg cwt
• New season extra heavy weight 4 score lambs dropped 14¢, to 494¢/kg cwt

At the close of Monday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator finished 2¢ lower, on 623¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs slipped 4¢, to 501¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were back 7¢, to 570¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs were back 2¢, on 525¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs eased 3¢, to 516¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator settled 6¢ lower, at 392¢/kg cwt
