Tuesday daily sheep summary

This week at Dubbo, lamb throughput increased significantly, yarding 34,190 head. Despite further wet conditions recorded over the weekend, supplies lifted, with a good level of quality seen throughout the yarding. Trade and heavy weight sections were in good supply, while Merinos continued to be well represented.

Sheep numbers also increased notably this week, to 8,310 head. A cheaper trend underlined most sections, with a good level of quality seen in places.

  • New season trade weight 3 score lambs to slaughter eased 31¢, to 607¢/kg cwt
  • Old season light weight 2 score Merino lambs slipped 89¢, to 529¢/kg cwt
  • Old season trade weight 3 score Merino lambs were back 61¢, to 528¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 4 score Merino ewes eased 49¢, to 382¢/kg cwt

Lamb consignments at Bendigo increased 3%, to 16,849 head. Supplies continued to be somewhat restricted as a result of the wet conditions, with most new season sections presenting in notable condition. All the regular buyers attended, however some operated more selectively than others.

Mutton numbers increased 56%, to 6,304 head. Shorn Merino and crossbred ewes made up the bulk of the yarding, with quality and condition improving week-on-week.

  • New season trade weight 3 score first-cross lambs gained 8¢, to 578¢/kg cwt
  • New season heavy weight 4 score lambs jumped 19¢, to 597¢/kg cwt
  • New season extra heavy weight 4 score lambs eased 2¢, to 598¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 3 score Merino ewes slipped 4¢, to 403¢/kg cwt

At the close of Monday’s markets:

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator eased 6¢, to 666¢/kg cwt
  • Merino lambs were back 26¢, on 542¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs were 9¢ lower, on 595¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were down 4¢, on 614¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs were back 5¢, to 607¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator settled 6¢ lower, on 396¢/kg cwt
