Tuesday daily sheep summary

At Dubbo, lamb throughput declined 31% to 15,060 head. Following widespread showers the week prior, numbers were down considerably. It was a good quality yarding, with a notable selection of trade and heavy weights penned, along with a fair number of lighter weights and Merinos.

Mutton numbers declined 69%, to 2,350 head. It was a good quality offering of mutton and most grades trended dearer week-on-week.  

• Trade weight 3 score new season lambs gained 48¢, to 659¢/kg cwt
• Light weight 2 score old Merino lambs were up 63¢, to 577¢/kg cwt
• Trade weight 3 score old lambs to slaughter jumped 43¢, to 612¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 4 score old Merino ewes finished 2¢ dearer, at 399¢/kg cwt

Lamb consignments at Bendigo declined 2% this week, to 9,854 head. The market trended dearer overall, with reports of tightened kill supplies off the back of the wet conditions. Processor and export buyers were particularly active, bidding keenly, with prices for heavy pens improving as a result.

Mutton throughput increased 33%, to 5,138 head. Larger selections of sheep were penned this week - with bare-shorn crossbred ewes particularly well supplied.

At the close of Monday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator lowered 28¢, to 580¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs were up 2¢, on 534¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were up 7¢, to 557¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs were up 8¢, to 590¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs were up 11¢, to 599¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator finished 4¢ dearer, on 414¢/kg cwt
