Tuesday daily sheep summary

Dubbo lamb throughput declined 39% this week, to 21,750 head. It was a fair quality yarding, with a fairly good selection of new season and trade weight old lambs penned. Heavy weights were in reasonable supply, however not to the extent seen the week prior.

Mutton numbers decreased 17%, to 7,580 head. A good quality offering of mutton was penned this week, with most grades trending dearer overall.

• Trade weight 3 score new season lambs slipped 18¢, to 611¢/kg cwt
• Trade weight 3 score old Merino lambs averaged 558¢/kg cwt
• Heavy weight 4 score old lambs to processors were up 7¢, to 594¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes gained 18¢, averaging 391¢/kg cwt

Lamb supply at Bendigo declined 29%, to 10,096 head. The usual buyers were in attendance this week, with a strong selection of new season lambs on offer. Demand for export lines remained subdued, with most new season categories trending marginally cheaper overall.

Mutton throughput increased 12%, to 3,871 head. Demand was notably strong this week, with the market finishing firm to slightly dearer.

• Light weight 2 score new season first-cross lambs eased 63¢, to 564¢/kg cwt
• Trade weight 3 score new season lambs were back 36¢, to 584¢/kg cwt
• Trade weight 3 score old first-cross lambs were back 34¢, to 509¢/kg cwt
• Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes slipped 15¢, to 391¢/kg cwt

At the close of Monday’s markets:

• The eastern states restocker lamb indicator gained 7¢, to 597¢/kg cwt
• Merino lambs were up 25¢ on 521¢/kg cwt
• Light lambs were up 9¢, to 539¢/kg cwt
• Trade lambs held firm on 583¢/kg cwt
• Heavy lambs eased 7¢, on 588¢/kg cwt
• The mutton indicator held firm on 400¢/kg cwt
