Tuesday daily sheep summary

At Dubbo, lamb supplies increased 7% to 35,680 head. It was a mixed yarding, with a notable selection of trade and heavy weights penned. Light weight drafts to processors trended cheaper week-on-week, with new season lambs selling to strong demand.

Mutton throughput increased 12%, to 9,080 head. Merinos were in good supply, with shorn sheep making up the majority in what was a plainer quality yarding.

  • Light weight 2 score old Merino lambs gained 2¢, averaging 470¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score old lambsto slaughter eased 58¢, averaging 539¢/kg
  • Heavy weight 4 score old lambs to processors slipped 35¢, to 587¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 4 score Merino wethers were up 12¢, to 447¢/kg cwt

Lamb throughput at Bendigo increased 61% this week, to 14,175 head. New season lambs made up the bulk of the offering, with an improvement in quality seen on last week’s sale. The usual group of buyers attended, with the yarding once again quite mixed and competition holding firm.

Mutton throughput increased 42%, to 3,457 head. Good quality Merino ewes were penned this week, with conditions trending mostly either side of firm.

  • Trade weight 3 score young lambs slipped 14¢, averaging 647¢/kg cwt
  • Light weight 2 score old Merino lambs eased 31¢, averaging 496¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 2 score old first-cross lambs gained 2¢, at 532¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes were back 15¢, averaging 407¢/kg cwt

At the close of Monday’s markets:

  • The eastern states restocker lamb indicator lifted 5¢, to 581¢/kg cwt
  • Merino lambs were back 22¢, on 493¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs were back 4¢, on 526¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were back 5¢, on 583¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs were back 6¢, on 590¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator finished 2¢ lower, on 385¢/kg cwt
